Devil Pods, also called Bat Nuts or Water Caltrop, are fierce little seed cases shaped like horned masks. In folk magic they are beloved as natural guardians, their spiked faces thought to glare back at anything that wishes harm. Long used in Southern rootwork and old hedge craft, these pods are set at doors and windows to confuse ill intent and turn it on its heels.

They are the watch-dogs of the plant world—small, strange, and wonderfully defiant.
